Thank you for making RehabWeek 2017 a great success!
London, 1st of August 2017
Dear Colleagues and Friends
On 17-20 July more than 1,200 researchers, scientists, clinicians, health practitioners, policy makers, users and industry from all over the world joined us in London at the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre for the 3rd RehabWeek. The RehabWeek Conference of 2017 targeted basic science, the translation of technologies across fields and promoted clinical delivery. It had a strong user involvement, aimed to inspire the younger generations and galvanised experts to tackle the challenges ahead through collaboration.
We were blown way by the passion and enthusiasm shared by all, from world-leading keynote lectures, to the passionate discussions during the organized workshops and the parallel individual conference sessions, to the lively poster sessions and interactive industry displays, to the informal discussions during the coffee breaks!
Our vision was to facilitate scientific communication in the field of rehabilitation technology between those designing and building the devices and those using them with their patients and consequently promote cross-fertilisation of the different technology fields. It is quite evident that this lack of communication is disastrous as successful inventions are always driven by the needs of the clinicians and their patients. The feedback received was overwhelming and many long-lasting partnerships were formed during this exciting event. We had had over 100 workshop session proposals submitted with 19 selected and featured on day one of RehabWeek. We had 733 scientific and clinical papers submitted for review to the four participating conferences (ICORR, INRS, IFESS and BSRM) of which 522 posters were selected for presentation during RehabWeek. Almost 1/3 of participants (330) were young scientists and students who gave enthusiastic presentations of their work – it is safe to say the field is secured and a bright and innovative future awaits!
It has been a great honour to organize RehabWeek and on behalf of the organizing committee of RehabWeek 2017, I thank you all for your contributions and for making our conference such great success.
